Bubs – your AI assistant for questions about digital forensics and data recovery

Do you have questions about a damaged storage device, a smartphone you can no longer access or the preservation of digital evidence?

Not everyone knows the technical possibilities and limits of professional data recovery or an IT forensic examination. Our AI assistant Bubs helps you understand general questions, assess possible next steps and find out how an examination at LanCologne works.

Simply ask Bubs your questions in your preferred language – no registration required. Its answers provide initial guidance and do not replace an individual technical examination or a binding expert assessment.

How can Bubs help you?

Many enquiries start with a specific concern. Bubs can provide initial guidance on questions such as these:

  • Hard drive dropped: “My external hard drive was dropped and is no longer recognised. What should I do now?”
  • Important data gone: “My hard drive contains family photos and important documents. Can the data still be recovered?”
  • Smartphone damaged: “My smartphone will no longer switch on. Is there still a way to get to the stored data?”
  • Deleted messages: “Can deleted WhatsApp messages or other data on a smartphone still be examined?”
  • Suspected unauthorised access: “I suspect that someone has accessed my computer or smartphone. What options are there for an examination?”
  • Cyberattack: “Our company may have been attacked. What should we bear in mind first so that no important traces are lost?”
  • Digital evidence: “I need digital data as evidence for court proceedings. How does a forensic examination work?”

Bubs explains which factors play a role, which steps may make sense and what you should better avoid. Whether and to what extent data can actually be recovered or traces secured can only be assessed after the device has been checked.

How Bubs responds

Data loss, a damaged device or a suspected attack are often stressful. Bubs is designed to respond calmly, objectively and clearly:

  • Bubs takes your concern seriously and explains possible next steps in plain language.
  • Bubs points out actions that can make a situation worse – such as repeated attempts to start a hard drive that may be mechanically damaged.
  • Bubs gives no guarantees of success and makes no diagnosis without an examination. You will only receive a binding offer from LanCologne after the device has been checked.
  • If a laboratory examination may be useful, Bubs points out this option without putting you under pressure.
