What you should know

Not every existing WAL or SHM file automatically contains additional usable information – this depends on the specific backup time and the use of the application in question. As these files are often mistakenly regarded as insignificant temporary files, it is not uncommon for them to be lost unnoticed if backed up incorrectly. We therefore back up WAL and SHM files as standard together with the associated database and analyse them in the context of other artefacts.
