Counter-assessment / Plausibility check

Not every IT forensic report provides a complete or comprehensible answer to the questions of evidence raised. A second opinion serves to independently review the methodology, documentation and conclusions, and to highlight technical weaknesses or unresolved issues.

OUR APPROACH

This is how your examination will be carried out

A transparent process – from the initial enquiry to the handover of the report.

1
First, the existing expert report, the issues in dispute and – where available – the original data or forensic backups are examined. Subsequently, the investigative steps, artefacts and conclusions are independently verified and technically assessed.
2
LanCologne prepares private expert reports on behalf of private individuals, companies and solicitors, as well as expert reports in the context of court-ordered assignments. Our investigations have already been used in various court proceedings. Furthermore, in some cases we have been directly commissioned to prepare IT forensic expert reports. The aim of a counter-report is to provide an objective technical assessment, not to support one party’s case.

LIMITATIONS & CONCLUSION

What you should know

A counter-assessment can only be based on the available documents and data. If original data or essential documentation is missing, this will be explicitly taken into account and explained in the findings.

A plausibility check provides clarity regarding the quality of an existing expert report and can help to contextualise technical issues in a way that is easy to understand.
