MOBILE FORENSICS

Expert reports in accordance with recognised forensic standards

An IT forensic expert report must present technical facts in a way that is clear, objective and reproducible. The aim is to provide courts, solicitors, businesses and private individuals with a sound basis for decision-making based on digital evidence.

OUR APPROACH

This is how your examination will be carried out

A transparent process – from the initial enquiry to the handover of the report.

1
Every investigation begins with the definition of the questions to be answered and the creation of a suitable forensic data backup. The relevant artefacts are then systematically analysed and correlated with one another. All stages of the investigation are documented in a manner that allows for full traceability.
2
LanCologne prepares private expert reports on behalf of private individuals, companies and solicitors, as well as expert reports in the context of court-ordered investigations. Our investigations have already been used in various court proceedings. Furthermore, in certain cases we have been directly commissioned to prepare IT forensic reports. Where legally permissible, anonymised and redacted sample reports can be provided to illustrate their structure and the quality of the documentation.

LIMITATIONS & CONCLUSION

What you should know

Even when recognised methods are used, technical limitations may still exist. Encryption, missing original data or damaged storage media may affect the scope of an investigation. Such limitations are described openly.

An expert report derives its validity not from individual tools, but from a methodologically sound, documented and objective approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Click on a question to see the answer.

Do standards guarantee a particular outcome?
No. They provide guidance on a clear approach, but do not replace a technical assessment of each individual case.
Why is documentation so important?
It makes it possible to follow the steps of the investigation and the conclusions drawn.
Are several artefacts being compared with one another?
Yes. Where possible, results are checked for plausibility using various data sources.
Can an existing expert report be reviewed?
Yes. Methodology, documentation and technical conclusions can be assessed as part of a second opinion.
Is the report written in a way that is easy to understand?
Technical matters are documented in such a way that they are also comprehensible to legal readers.
