Not all file formats store the same metadata. Cloud services, encryption or deletion processes can complicate the analysis. The assessment is therefore always carried out taking into account other artefacts and the overall data context.

Files and their metadata are among the most important sources of information in a mobile IT forensic investigation. It is only through the combination of document content, time-stamps and other artefacts that a reliable assessment can be made.
