MOBILE FORENSICS
Mobile Artefacts – Notes on IT Forensics
Digital notes are among the most frequently used features of a smartphone. They often contain personal information, checklists, drafts, passwords, images, scans or voice recordings. They therefore represent a significant source of digital artefacts for mobile IT forensics.
OUR APPROACH
This is how your examination will be carried out
A transparent process – from the initial enquiry to the handover of the report.
TYPICAL QUESTIONS
When is this analysis required?
- ✔What notes were available?
- ✔When were the notes created or amended?
- ✔Did the notes contain any attachments or images?
- ✔Have any notes been deleted?
- ✔Has synchronisation with a cloud service taken place?
LIMITATIONS & CONCLUSION
What you should know
Not every note-taking app stores the same metadata. Encryption, synchronisation or deletion processes can affect the available data set. For this reason, notes are always assessed within the overall context of all artefacts.
Note artefacts often provide valuable insights into chronological sequences and content. Together with other digital traces, they can make an important contribution to a robust IT forensic report.
