LIMITATIONS & CONCLUSION

What you should know

Metadata may be missing or may have been deliberately removed. Cloud synchronisation, image editing or exports via messaging apps can alter or reduce the amount of information. For this reason, photos are never assessed in isolation.

Photographs often provide far more information than is visible in the image itself. Together with their metadata, they are among the most revealing pieces of evidence in a mobile IT forensic investigation.

Can deleted photos be recovered?
Whether recovery is possible depends on the device, the storage structure and the extraction method chosen.
Is EXIF data always present?
No. They may have been deleted, altered or reduced in size by exporting them via Messenger.
