MOBILE FORENSICS
Mobile Artefacts – Contacts in IT Forensics
Contact lists are among the fundamental elements of mobile IT forensics. They provide clues as to communication partners and can be cross-referenced with other data sources such as call logs, messaging apps or emails.
OUR APPROACH
This is how your examination will be carried out
A transparent process – from the initial enquiry to the handover of the report.
TYPICAL QUESTIONS
When is this analysis required?
- ✔Who owns a particular phone number?
- ✔When was a contact created or amended?
- ✔Has a contact been deleted?
- ✔Do the contact details match the Messenger data?
LIMITATIONS & CONCLUSION
What you should know
Contacts can be stored locally or synchronised via cloud services. Deleted entries cannot always be recovered. Some apps use their own contact lists.
Contacts often form the basis for interpreting other communication artefacts. It is only when combined with other data sources that a complete picture emerges.
