MOBILE FORENSICS
Mobile artefacts – call logs in IT forensics
Call logs are among the most important artefacts in a mobile IT forensic investigation. They can help to trace communication patterns and document the chronological sequence of events. When combined with other artefacts such as contacts, text messages or location data, events can often be contextualised much more effectively.
OUR APPROACH
This is how your examination will be carried out
A transparent process – from the initial enquiry to the handover of the report.
TYPICAL QUESTIONS
When is this analysis required?
- ✔When did a particular call take place?
- ✔Was a person actually contacted?
- ✔Have any entries been deleted or amended?
- ✔Are there any matches with Messenger, location or calendar data?
LIMITATIONS & CONCLUSION
What you should know
Not all call data is retained permanently. Synchronisation, resets, deletions or differences in manufacturers’ implementations may affect the data set. Furthermore, VoIP services may use their own databases.
Call logs are a key piece of evidence in mobile IT forensics. However, they are most valuable when analysed in conjunction with all other relevant smartphone artefacts.
